I’m Raul.

After about five years looking for a boat that could meet my family’s needs, we found Tortuga in Mexico. Once we bought her, we decided to move there and give the refit our full attention. Since then, the project has involved planning, finding materials, carpentry, and solving the problems that come with rebuilding a boat.

My goal is to finish Tortuga and transition to a life of sailing. This journal follows the work toward that goal, with photographs and practical notes as the refit develops.

For now, the boat is still a work in progress. These pages are where I’m gathering the story.
